Plane Truth: How to Immerse Yourself in a Culture

July 17, 2019 Jennifer Pellerito

Lojel

I was tasked with writing on the topic of cultural immersion for Lojel, an international luggage brand. The piece appeared in Paid Leave, Issue #5, the brand’s online publication.

“I step into new experiences with an open mind, and I’ve gotten comfortable with feeling out of place. Going to a party where no one is speaking my language is more than okay: I sit as an observer, listening to the waves of French, Portuguese, Spanish, and German, all lingering in the same air. Although I may be an outsider, by remaining attentive, I fit in just as much as anyone else in the room.”

How fitness brands build stronger connections with consumers

A Little Bird is a brand activation agency based in Los Angeles and London. For the blog section of the website, I wrote a piece on how fitness brands can effectively market to audiences.

“We now know that Steve Jobs had it right when he insisted, against skepticism from pundits at the time, that Apple open brick-and-mortar stores. Retail brands that specialize in fitness wear need to ignore the calls of the “death of retail” and apply a similar philosophy.”

Social Management + Copy

In advance the Los Angeles premiere, the client tasked me with managing social media scheduling, curating an editorial calendar, and crafting copy to boost excitement about the event. Along with hyping up fans about the film, my role involved promoting the newly released film soundtrack.

While the film took on the international festival circuit, I created graphics and wrote copy to keep fans engaged.

Projects Analytics: Web Copy

The client was looking to revive existing web copy for professionals in construction, architecture and related industries. Despite having very little prior knowledge of project management software, I took on the challenge to compose informative, yet approachable copy with appropriate call-to-action statements.

Joymode

For Joymode’s company blog, I wrote a piece on the Outdoor Pizza Oven bundle, capturing the brand’s light, humorous voice targeted to the city-dwelling Millennial.

“By the time dinner is over, you’ll feel like you’re back in old Napoli. Even better, your date will be as pleased as a pizza pie. Thanks to the outdoor pizza oven, it’s easy to turn up the heat on your romance. And with more amore in your life, you’ll soon be living la bella vita (aka, the good life).”

The Kodo: Web Copy

The client, a real estate investment company launching a new luxury rental property, wanted to appeal to an international, Millennial audience.

I helped shape the brand voice, tagline and terminology to reflect the brand’s modern, hip personality. Points of emphasis were the property’s five-star amenities and location in the up-and-coming Koreatown neighborhood.

A Case for Solitude

Lojel

I was tasked with writing about solo travel for Lojel, an international luggage brand. The piece appeared in Paid Leave, Issue #3, the brand’s online publication.

“Traveling alone has given me the freedom to pursue my own passions while also welcoming the “risk” of meeting strangers. I’ve learned, more than anything, that though we may speak a different language, we are more similar than we are different. Only when we realize this can we truly understand what it means to be alone—and fully appreciate the times when we are not.”
